vaginal painVaginal Pain - If you have any kind of vaginal pain, you shouldn't ignore it and persuade yourself that it will go away on its own. If you have a pain in your lady parts it could be serious and need immediate attention.

But before heading straight to your Doctor read on to learn about some of the reasons why you could be experiencing pain or discomfort down there.

1. Infection

You and I know it as bacterial vaginosis, this infection can cause you extreme pain and irritation in the vaginal area and should not be confused with thrush. You can distinguish this pain from thrush or any other infection because you will also experience pain while urinating and having sex. Other symptoms of bacterial vaginosis include greyish-white discharge, unpleasant fish-like odour, itching  and abnormal bleeding patterns.

2. Childbirth

If you have given birth by normal vaginal delivery, then the chances are the pain of childbirth will continue for some time after. You may think this is normal, but if it continues for more than a week, get yourself examined by a doctor immediately.

3. Surgery

If you have had any kind of pelvic surgery, then you will experience vaginal pain for several weeks until the wounds have healed and the stitches have come off. Make sure you don't itch or scrub the area until it is completely healed.

4. Trauma

If you have gone through sexual abuse, then you are likely to experience a long term vaginal pain. Consult your physician for options as to the best way to deal with this.

5. Excessive Vaginal Hygiene

Excessive vaginal hygiene could also lead to pain in the area due to repeated washing and scrubbing. Douching can also cause vaginal pain. Make sure the cleaning is moderate and not extreme. You should also avoid soap products well washing down there and instead go for a special feminine wash such as Multi-Gyn FemiWash.

6. Allergies

If you are allergic to condoms or a certain type of sanitary towel, then there is a possibility that  you might experience vaginal pain. Check for these allergies to try and eliminate the problem (stop using sanitary towels and see if the pain goes). Apart from that, you may also experience irritation if you apply sprays and talcum powder on your vaginal area.

7. Endometriosis

Endometriosis is also a common reason why you would experience vaginal pain. It happens when some tissue is misplaced due to surgery or laparoscopy. The distinguishing factor for endometriosis is that apart from that vaginal pain, you will experience heavy menstrual bleeding and even fertility problems.

8. Vaginismus

Vaginismus is the inability to insert anything into the vagina. So, the distinguishing factor is, if you have vaginismus you will experience fear and extreme pain only while trying to insert anything into your vagina. This could be while inserting a tampon, a female condom or even during penetration.

9. Cancer

Vaginal cancer can also be the cause for vaginal pain. However, this pain will be accompanied by abnormal vaginal bleeding as well. You will also be able to detect a lump in your vaginal area. If you do have these symptoms, make sure you get yourself checked out by your Doctor or Gynaecologist.

The reasons for vaginal pain are amongst the things that every woman should know. We have created an eBook which covers everything you should know about intimate hygiene, your vagina and the most common vaginal discomforts and solutions.
